Over the past few months, we have completely changed our approach to working with projects. Previously, knowledge about the system existed mainly in the head, correspondence, and dozens of individual documents, but today they live in one place and are constantly evolving.
Obsidian has become such a place for us.
At first, we used it as a regular notepad. Then they started linking the notes together. Later, we connected Claude and started working not with individual files, but with the whole knowledge system.
At some point, it became clear that the main advantage of this bundle was not text generation.
The main thing is to preserve the structure.
As the project grows, there are many documents, ideas, technical solutions, requirements, instructions, and discussions. After a few months, even the author begins to forget why this or that decision was made. Finding the information you need is becoming increasingly difficult.
Obsidian allows you to connect all this into a single network. Each note becomes part of the overall picture, rather than a separate document.
Claude, in turn, helps to maintain this structure. Instead of the "write a text" question, completely different tasks appear.:
"Lay out the architecture of the project."
"Check if there are any contradictions."
"Suggest a documentation structure."
"Create a separate view for the customer."
As a result, AI ceases to be a text generator and becomes an assistant that works with an existing knowledge system.
The most interesting discovery for us was the opportunity to make separate representations of the same knowledge base.
For example, the entire project documentation can be located inside the main work base: technical notes, drafts, research, internal instructions, and development history.
But the partner or the customer does not need this information at all.
We have started to create compact presentation repositories where only review materials are available. No internal files, no work notes, and no unnecessary information.
As a result, a person opens Obsidian and immediately sees a clear map of the project. Several key sections, links between them, and overview materials. It takes minutes, not days, to study the structure.
It turned out to be useful not only for presentations.
New team members start to navigate much faster. There is no need to explain the project structure over a video call or search for the right document among hundreds of files. It is enough to open the knowledge map.
Separately, I would like to mention Count Obsidian.
Many people perceive it as a beautiful visualization. We thought so too.
In practice, it turned out to be an analysis tool.
When the graph begins to reflect the real connections between projects, it becomes clear where the architecture is too complex, which sections are practically unrelated to the system, and which, on the contrary, become the central elements of the entire ecosystem.
It was after that that we started creating separate graphs, not only for internal work, but also for project demonstrations.
Of course, installing Obsidian by itself won't change anything.
The effect appears when there is a unified logic for organizing knowledge and clear rules for working with it. A good prompt for Claude helps a lot here. It allows you not just to generate text, but to gradually transform a chaotic set of documents into a structured knowledge base.
Today, we no longer see Obsidian as a note-taking app.
For us, this is the digital memory of the project.
If you're developing a single product, multiple services, or an entire ecosystem of solutions, try to stop storing everything in your head and in conversations. Gather knowledge into a single system, set up connections between notes, and use AI not instead of your own thinking, but as a tool to restore order.
This approach proved to be the most valuable for us.
Obsidian.
Obsidian.
