Kazakh School Students Achieve Record-Breaking Success at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence IOAI 2025 in Beijing
The Kazakh national team delivered one of the best performances at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence for school students (IOAI 2025), winning 3 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals, and showcasing a high level of preparation, creativity, and technical expertise in the field of AI.

The Olympiad took place from August 2 to 9 in Beijing, bringing together 77 teams from 61 countries. Kazakhstan was represented by two teams, each contributing to the national team’s overall success. Kazakhstan’s gold medalists were Kassymkan Zhanibek, Abu Qanabek, and Sultanbi Isatai. Aushakhman Talim won silver, while Timur Shakuov, Dauzhan Beketov, and Sultanbek Sary earned bronze medals.
In addition, Batyr Erdenov received a commendation from the IOAI Organizing Committee.
In the unofficial medal standings, Kazakhstan shared second place for the number of gold medals with Poland, India, and Vietnam (3 golds each). The leader was Russia (6 gold medals), followed by Singapore (2 golds), and Romania, Japan, Sweden, and Hong Kong (1 gold each). IOAI is a prestigious international competition that combines scientific and practical components, where participants tackle both individual and team challenges in developing AI-based solutions, including image and video generation, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and more.
Beyond the competitive program, the Olympiad features lectures by leading global experts, ethical discussions, and cultural and educational activities aimed at promoting artificial intelligence among young people.
The general partner of the Kazakh national team was the Astana Hub International Innovation Cluster.
Astana Hub played a significant role in preparing the team, ensuring support for national participation on the global stage and strengthening Kazakhstan’s position as a new hub for artificial intelligence.
The organizer of Kazakhstan’s participation in the Olympiad is the Kazakhstan Sports Programming Federation (CPFED). The Federation’s mission is to promote and develop competitive programming among the population, as well as to improve the performance of Kazakh participants in international and national competitions.
Thanks to CPFED’s comprehensive support — from selecting and training participants to organizing the trip — the national team received high-quality preparation, which became a key factor in their successful performance.
The success of the Kazakh team confirms the high level of IT education and the growing interest of school students in cutting-edge technologies. The victory at IOAI 2025 is the result of systematic work by mentors, support for educational initiatives, and the increasing number of young specialists ready to shape the future of AI today.
The Ministry extends special thanks to everyone who contributed to the Olympiad participation. This achievement was made possible thanks to the support of the Sports Programming Federation @cpfed.kz, Astana Hub, as well as the dedication of parents and teachers.
