How Peer-to-Peer Learning is Transforming IT Education: The Experience of Astana Hub and Tomorrow School
As part of the City of Skilled Trades festival, Astana Hub hosted a panel discussion titled “Next-Generation IT Education”, where experts explored the transformation of educational methodologies in response to rapid technological advancements and the growing demand for practically skilled professionals.

Among the speakers were Danabek Kaliazhdarov, Advisor to the CEO of Astana Hub, and Alisher Ashekeyev, a student at Tomorrow School. The discussion was moderated by Rustam Kenzhali, Astana Hub’s Operations Manager. The panelists presented alternative learning models in IT, focusing on peer-to-peer education, which is challenging traditional approaches to training specialists in high-tech fields.
Key topics included the evolution of education systems, the integration of hands-on learning into curricula, and the rising popularity of self-directed learning models. Speakers detailed how peer-to-peer methodology, which eliminates traditional teacher oversight, enhances knowledge retention through active student collaboration.
"Thousands of years ago, when humanity domesticated the horse, people didn’t lose the ability to walk—but those who learned to ride had a significant advantage. Today, artificial intelligence is the modern equivalent of that horse. If we don’t learn how to control technology, it will control us," said Danabek Kaliazhdarov, emphasizing the need to embrace new technologies to boost efficiency.
The discussion also highlighted Tomorrow School—Kazakhstan’s first AI-focused educational institution. Speakers examined the uniqueness of the concept, the challenges faced by its creators, and the school's future potential. Experts emphasized that employers today seek professionals capable of solving real-world challenges, not just theorists.
"The unique aspect of studying at Tomorrow School is that we learn from each other. This is the essence of peer-to-peer education: there are no teachers, no rigid schedules, and no standardized approaches. I can come to school at any time and continue my learning. Among our peers and teammates, there are those who know more than us—they guide us, provide insights, and share their expertise. Beyond gaining technical skills, we also develop the ability to communicate effectively with people we may work with in the future," shared Alisher Ashekeyev, a Tomorrow School student.
The discussion sparked strong interest among festival attendees, including representatives of educational institutions and students, reaffirming the relevance of revolutionizing learning approaches. Astana Hub will continue to drive educational initiatives, supporting the launch of new programs, hackathons, and collaborative IT education projects—ultimately fostering an ecosystem that nurtures highly skilled specialists.
The City of Skilled Trades festival, held at the EXPO exhibition center, has brought together future professionals, employers, and vocational education organizations. This landmark event marks the first large-scale initiative within the "Year of Skilled Trades," as declared by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
