“This fall, a TUMO Center will open at the alem.ai International AI Center for teenagers aged 12 to 18. It’s an innovative educational space where kids can study the basics of animation, programming, 3D graphics, generative AI, and other fields for free. For youth and university students, we launched Kazakhstan’s first peer-to-peer AI school — Tomorrow School — last year. The focus is on hands-on experience, teamwork, and the development of critical thinking. The program is free and designed to last two years. Anyone who passes the selection process can enroll. As part of the curriculum, students learn modern programming languages in high demand in AI and IT development — such as Golang, JavaScript, Python, and Rust,” Akhmetova said.
She also highlighted the AI Qyzmet program, which is aimed at civil servants and managers. The program is designed not only to build understanding of AI, but to teach how to implement it — ethically, efficiently, and for the benefit of society. It is a contribution to creating a more tech-savvy and adaptive public administration system.
Another noteworthy initiative is QazCoders, an educational program developed in partnership with the UAE. Between 2019 and 2023, a similar project was successfully implemented in Uzbekistan and Jordan. The program is open to participants of all ages and includes support from experts and an AI assistant.
One of the major AI-related initiatives is Decentrathon — Kazakhstan’s largest multi-location hackathon. This project brings together young professionals from across the country and involves them in AI transformation through hands-on work on real-world future solutions. In 2024, more than 2,500 participants from all regions of Kazakhstan took part in Decentrathon.
