Kazakhstan Hosts AI Training Program for Girls
From February 5 to 7, 2025, Astana Hub is hosting the AI Skills Accelerator for Girls, a training program designed to enhance digital skills among young women and girls in the field of artificial intelligence. The event was officially opened by Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan, with Natalia Mochu, Regional Director of the ITU for the CIS region, joining online.

The training is designed to enhance digital skills among girls and women, focusing on the latest artificial intelligence technologies. The ITU Development Sector and EY have partnered to implement this two-year program, ensuring access to cutting-edge technological knowledge.
"The Head of State pays special attention to the development of AI in our country. We plan to integrate AI into all areas of life. We have set an ambitious goal—to train 1 million people over five years. This includes 500,000 schoolchildren, 300,000 students, 90,000 civil servants, 80,000 corporate sector representatives, and 30,000 specialists from other industries. Pilot programs are already in place for all these categories. We also plan to introduce mandatory AI training for all current and future civil servants, with the pilot set to launch this March. As you can see, AI education is available for all groups of citizens," said Minister Zhaslan Madiyev.
The program aims to equip young women with digital, ethical, and leadership skills, empowering them to develop innovative solutions and apply AI to solve real-world challenges in their communities.
Over two years, the program will achieve the following outcomes:
- 1,000 girls will participate in in-person training sessions, gaining knowledge, mentorship, and expert support.
- Workshops will be held across 12 countries worldwide (two per ITU region).
- Participants will have the opportunity to compete, with winners earning the chance to attend an international ITU event on AI.
The project is implemented by the ITU Development Sector in partnership with EY.
"Developing AI skills opens new opportunities for girls, allowing them not only to master advanced technologies but also to apply them for the benefit of their communities. This program is a step toward a more inclusive and equal digital future," said Natalia Mochu, Regional Director of ITU for the CIS region.
Kazakhstan is among the first six countries selected for the program in 2024–2025, alongside India, Jordan, Kenya, Malta, and Paraguay.
