The Tesla Model Y reached the buyer on autopilot for the first time.

The Tesla Model Y electric crossover used autopilot to drive from the factory across the city on motorways – and stopped at the house of the customer who ordered it.

This was announced on June 27 by the head of the company, Elon Musk, on Twitter. Knowing Musk, this statement can be interpreted as a rebuff to the growing scandal surrounding Tesla's self-driving taxis, but it is indisputable that the company kept its promise. As Musk noted, the autonomous delivery of the car took place the day before the scheduled date – according to previously announced plans, it was supposed to happen on June 28, the day of the 54th anniversary of the head of the company.

He stressed that this is the first fully autonomous delivery of a car. – no one controlled it either from the salon or remotely. Ashok Elluswami, head of Tesla's artificial intelligence and autopilot division, said that during the trip, the electric crossover reached a maximum speed of 72 mph, that is, 116 km/h.

The video has already caused a wide response — and for good reason. In 2016, Tesla already published a video where Autopilot's capabilities were exaggerated for the sake of marketing, as later became known from the testimony of company employees.

Nevertheless, this is an important PR move for Tesla: amid falling sales of electric vehicles and criticism of Musk for his public statements, the company is trying to regain its status as an innovator.

When do you think our dealers will be able to deliver new cars home?! :)
