Astana Hub has presented the latest results of the Digital Nomad Residency (DNR) and Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) programs, which contribute to strengthening international ties, facilitating the exchange of technological expertise, and growing Kazakhstan’s IT community. As of August 2026, 250 foreign IT professionals had obtained permanent residence permits under Digital Nomad Residency, while another 12 IT professionals had received Digital Nomad Visas after completing the required procedures.
Digital Nomad Residency and Digital Nomad Visa are being developed as part of the Trusted Kazakhstan concept, aimed at strengthening Kazakhstan’s ties with the global technology community and attracting international IT expertise.
Since the launch of the programs, 1,517 applications from 71 countries have been submitted. IT professionals from various regions, including the CIS, Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East, have shown interest in Kazakhstan.
The number of applications submitted does not represent the number of visas or residence permits issued. The application process consists of several consecutive stages: submission and review of an application, issuance of a supporting petition by Astana Hub, and completion of further procedures established by the relevant government authorities.
As of August 2026, following the review of applications, Astana Hub had processed 1,069 supporting petitions: 1,030 under the Digital Nomad Residency program and 39 under the Digital Nomad Visa program. A supporting petition is not a visa or residence permit and does not guarantee that the applicant will automatically obtain the corresponding status.
Astana Hub does not issue visas or make decisions on granting residence permits. Its role within the programs is to review applications and process a supporting petition when a candidate meets the established requirements. After receiving the petition, the applicant proceeds with the required procedures before the relevant government authorities.
To date, 262 professionals have obtained the corresponding statuses — approximately 17% of the total number of applications submitted. Submitting an application under the programs does not entitle an applicant to a visa or residence permit. Each candidate must complete the established procedure, with the final decision made by the authorized government authorities.
The programs are designed for foreign IT professionals who meet the established professional criteria and consider Kazakhstan a destination for living, working, and professional development. These include developers, product managers, artificial intelligence specialists, data analysts, technology entrepreneurs and startup founders, executives of international technology companies, as well as other digital professionals, including those working remotely for foreign employers.
Attracting international technology professionals facilitates the exchange of expertise with Kazakhstani teams and contributes to the development of technology entrepreneurship and the professional IT community. The presence of foreign IT professionals in Kazakhstan can also generate additional economic activity through their use of local goods and services. In the longer term, they may launch projects in Kazakhstan, invest in local teams, and create new jobs.
