alem.ai: How Kazakhstan is Emerging as a Leader in Artificial Intelligence
In July 2024, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the launch of alem.ai, an international artificial intelligence center designed to foster education, research, and entrepreneurship in AI. This initiative aims to create a space where students, entrepreneurs, and scientists can develop cutting-edge technologies and gain access to the world’s best AI practices—all within Kazakhstan.

At the core of this project lies Kazakhstan’s strategic vision for digital transformation. The President emphasized the need for a national platform where young students, aspiring entrepreneurs, and researchers can experiment, learn, and drive AI innovation. alem.ai is set to achieve several key objectives. First, the center aims to train 1,000 AI specialists annually to meet the growing global demand for skilled professionals. Second, it plans to launch 100 AI startups, fostering local innovation and strengthening Kazakhstan’s position in the AI industry. Third, the initiative will support 10 research projects focused on advancing AI technologies. Lastly, by 2030, the goal is to engage 10,000 professionals, ranging from IT experts to business leaders, in the center’s ecosystem.
