How Astana Hub Is Advancing Tech Projects Led by Women

Astana Hub is actively developing educational programs that help young people and women acquire practical tech skills. The tech park is seeing steady growth in the number of women-led tech startups: while there were 179 such companies in 2023, that number has now surpassed 300. This was announced by Astana Hub’s Managing Director, Valeriya Tyo, during a press conference at the Central Communications Service.

According to the speaker, this growth is clear evidence that women are not only entering the digital space but are also becoming leaders in the field.

“Astana Hub supports women’s entrepreneurship in IT through educational tracks, accelerators, and access to investment. Among our success stories are startups like Yaya, ChecDoc.kz, and others. Still, women make up only around 30% of the industry. That’s why we’re working with partners to implement initiatives aimed at closing this gap — such as IT-Aiel, TechGirls, and others. Thousands of women across the country have taken part in these programs,” said Valeriya Tyo.

She also noted that registration for two major educational programs — Aqyl Tech and IT-Aiel — opened today in Kazakhstan.

Aqyl Tech is a brand-new program targeting youth under the age of 35, including college and university students from the regions, self-employed individuals, residents of rural areas, and people from socially vulnerable groups. The program will help participants build foundational skills in digital literacy, cybersecurity, and financial resilience, while introducing them to career opportunities in the tech sector.

IT-Aiel, launched in 2023, has already proven to be in high demand. It is designed for women aged 25 and older who want to master digital tools, start working as freelancers, or launch their own online businesses.
