The Framework Agreement on the establishment of the Global Network of Centres for Exchange and Cooperation on AI Capacity Building was signed at the headquarters of the World Trade Organization (Centre William Rappard) in Geneva. As part of this international initiative, the Alem.ai International AI Center, operating under Astana Hub, officially joined the Global Network. On behalf of Kazakhstan, the Framework Agreement was signed by Valeriya Tyo, Managing Director of Astana Hub.
The Global Network was established to help bridge the digital divide in artificial intelligence by bringing together universities, corporations, UN Member States, and civil society organizations. Under the agreement, participating centers will provide developing countries with technical, educational, and expert support to strengthen their AI capabilities.
The key areas of cooperation include:
-
Developing national and regional AI ecosystems;
-
Training AI professionals and launching international educational programs;
-
Sharing computing infrastructure, datasets, and AI models;
-
Supporting applied AI projects in socially significant sectors.
Today, the Network brings together more than 20 AI centers from Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Ahead of the signing ceremony, on July 3–4, representatives of Astana Hub participated in a working workshop hosted by the University of Geneva. During the meetings, the participants discussed the framework for collaboration among the centers and developed a joint work plan for 2026–2027, focused on establishing mechanisms for international cooperation and launching a sustainable platform for knowledge and expertise exchange.
