Roman Lineytsev: 90% of our revenue comes from abroad — and we bring it back to Kazakhstan

Roman Lineytsev, a 26-year-old mobile game developer from Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, has shared the story of the international success of his company, Grand Mobile. Since its launch in 2022, the open-world life simulator has surpassed 60 million downloads and generated $30 million in revenue, with 90% of that income coming from international markets. The company is fully bootstrapped and continues to reinvest its earnings to expand into new regions.

Lineytsev emphasizes the importance of corporate social responsibility. In 2025, Grand Mobile became the general sponsor of Enactus Kazakhstan, a youth organization that supports entrepreneurial projects with social, environmental, and economic impact. The company also sponsors the Torpedo hockey club in Ust-Kamenogorsk and the Kokpar Federation of Kazakhstan, contributing to the development of sports and the preservation of cultural heritage.

In partnership with Astana Hub, Grand Mobile is planning to open a regional game development center in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Lineytsev believes that Kazakhstan has strong potential to produce globally successful gaming projects and plans to invest over ₸500 million to support emerging local talent.

“Kazakhstan has many talented developers, but game development isn’t just about programmers. It also includes artists, writers, game designers, and marketers. The real challenge is the lack of infrastructure and educational opportunities. While self-learning is possible, it’s much harder to grow without mentors, networking, or feedback. On the other hand, modern engines like Unreal Engine and Unity enable game creation without building tech from scratch. That’s why creating game dev hubs can become a launchpad for Kazakhstan’s presence on the global stage,” said Lineytsev.
