The city of Astana continues to reinforce its reputation as the region’s leading innovation center thanks to significant achievements in the development of its startup ecosystem. One of the key factors behind this success was the contribution of Astana Hub, which received the prestigious Best Startup Ecosystem in Central Asia award based on the regional ranking results.
The StartupBlink study results demonstrate Kazakhstan’s competitiveness on the international stage and its potential as a center of innovative development.
“StartupBlink annually evaluates more than 1,300 startup ecosystems across over 100 countries using 40 parameters, including the number of startups, accelerators, coworking spaces, jobs created, as well as startups’ achievements in international markets,” said Tanat Uskembayev, Managing Director of Astana Hub. “Over the past three years, Kazakhstan has shown steady growth in the ranking, strengthening its position within the global startup community. The country also remains a leader among the member states of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program.”
It is worth noting that in 2024 Astana Hub achieved significant results in developing Kazakhstan’s startup ecosystem. For example, within the Silkway Accelerator program, developed by Astana Hub jointly with Google for Startups, 62 startups out of more than 1,300 applications from Central Eurasia successfully completed the program. These startups reached a combined capitalization of around $500 million and attracted $28.6 million in investments.
The Hero Training program, implemented in partnership with Draper University, takes place in Silicon Valley and opens opportunities for startups to enter the U.S. market. Since 2023, 37 startups from three Central Asian countries have participated in the program, including CITIX, which raised $1 million in investment from world-renowned venture investor Tim Draper.
As part of the AI’preneurs program, aimed at supporting AI projects, 21 startups were created, seven of which received funding under the Seed Money program.
An important role in the regional ecosystem was also played by the AlchemistX & Silicon Valley Residency Program, launched jointly with Alchemist Accelerator and Silkroad Innovation Hub. Thanks to this initiative, 22 startups from Central Eurasia entered the U.S. market; three of them raised $1.4 million in investments, while eight concluded commercial deals totaling $379,000.
In turn, the Global Outsourcer 2.0 program helped 15 Kazakhstani IT companies sign 98 export contracts worth more than $355,000 with clients from 24 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, the UAE, and Australia.
