SKO Hub: A New Center for Startups and IT Talents in Kazakhstan Opens in Petropavlovsk

On December 6, 2024, the official opening of SKO Hub, the eighteenth regional IT hub of Kazakhstan, took place in Petropavlovsk. Created with the support of Astana Hub, the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry, and the Akimat of the North Kazakhstan Region, SKO Hub is set to become a crucial part of the region’s technological ecosystem.

The hub aims to provide a space where startups can find the resources they need to grow, and young talents can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful IT career. Its objectives include fostering IT education, building a favorable ecosystem for technological entrepreneurship, promoting digital initiatives, and accelerating digital transformation in the North Kazakhstan region.

“SKO Hub is a new step in the development of the IT ecosystem of our region. We expect that it will become a center of attraction for young people and those interested in the development of IT infrastructure. After all, it is in them that the real potential for further transformation lies,” said Ruslan Alishev, Head of the Akim Office of the North Kazakhstan Region.

As part of its operations, the hub will host incubation programs, educational courses, seminars, and events such as meetups, workshops, forums, hackathons, and other initiatives to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration among participants in the technology ecosystem.

“The opening of SKO Hub is part of the strategy to create a sustainable technology infrastructure in Kazakhstan. In 2024, Astana Hub will open its eighteenth hub, marking a significant step in establishing a unified network of support centers for innovative projects across the country,” added Aida Dusova, Director of the Regional Development Office of Astana Hub.

Currently, Kazakhstan is home to 18 IT hubs, which have collectively hosted over 1,700 events, including 18 international forums. These initiatives have engaged more than 50,000 participants and led to the creation of 440 startups. Nearly 200 IT companies are now part of the Astana Hub ecosystem, contributing to the advancement of digital technologies and innovation in the country.

Since the launch of regional hubs, 450 startup ideas have been developed, and specialized GameDev centers have been established at Qostanai Hub and Kyzylorda Hub. Furthermore, Astana Hub has registered 1,555 IT companies, including 186 from Kazakhstan’s regions, as active participants in its technology ecosystem, further driving the IT sector’s growth.

The opening of SKO Hub aligns with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s strategy to create innovative infrastructure in the regions and support young talent and technology entrepreneurship.
