A roundtable discussion was held at Astana Hub with the participation of Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and representatives of the IT market. Around 50 participants took part in the discussion, including representatives of government bodies and industry associations, as well as leading IT companies and the business community. The meeting was conducted in an open-dialogue format.
During the discussion, participants identified key priorities, challenges, and possible solutions, including the reform of the Trusted Software Registry, support for the electronic industry, the distribution of IT functions between the state and the market, and the modernization of the architecture of e-government services and digital services for citizens.
Special attention was given to initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence. The Minister provided a detailed overview of work being carried out across three key areas: institutional development, infrastructure, and human capital. In particular, a specialized government body—the Committee for the Development of Artificial Intelligence and the Creative Industry—has been established; a national AI development concept has been approved; and work is underway on terminology, standards, and ethical norms. Kazakhstan is also actively developing AI infrastructure: a supercomputing platform has been launched in Silicon Valley, and the most powerful supercomputer in Central Asia, based on NVIDIA H200 graphics chips designed for high-performance AI computing, has been delivered to the country.
Continuing the discussion, the Minister presented the concept of the International Artificial Intelligence Center alem.ai, which is set to become the core of the national AI ecosystem. The center will bring together a public space, educational programs such as Tomorrow School and TUMO Center, an AI campus for startups, scientific R&D laboratories, and a GovTech space—AI-Driven Government—where solutions for the public sector will be developed and implemented.
“Today, we want not only to explain what is happening in the field of artificial intelligence, but also to build joint efforts with the market. We plan to hold such meetings on a regular basis to stay aligned with the industry and move in the same direction. The principle of dialogue is central to our work: we are interested in constructive feedback and real initiatives from the professional community. Only through joint efforts can we ensure the systematic development of the industry and create in-demand technologies—both domestically and internationally,” Zhaslan Madiyev emphasized.
During the meeting, representatives of industry associations, the expert community, and the private sector actively shared proposals and raised pressing issues. The discussion concluded with a Q&A session, during which initiatives were voiced, existing barriers were identified, and ways to overcome them were proposed.
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to join forces to address priority tasks and develop concrete proposals aimed at advancing the IT industry.
