ASSESSMENT SOFTWARE FOR DEVELOPMENT KAZAKHSTAN WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM CENARIOS

Kazakhstan today faces a number of acute hydrological challenges, ranging from declining local water resources to changes in transboundary flows influenced by human activity and climate change.

To find sustainable solutions, the Laboratory for Water Supply of Natural and Economic Systems and Mathematical Modelling at the Institute of Geography and Water Security of Kazakhstan has developed a unique software model for assessing and designing scenarios for the development of the country's water supply system. The results of this work were presented in the article ‘Software for assessing scenarios for the development of Kazakhstan's water supply system’.

One of the key objectives of this project was to create a Unified Water Supply System (UWSS) — a strategically important infrastructure capable of performing vital environmental, economic and social functions. This initiative is based on many years of research, first presented at the 1st International Scientific and Practical Conference several years ago.

Today, the model is actively developing and improving, and analysing its performance will be the subject of my dissertation research, which will enable quick and effective assessment and forecasting of both natural and anthropogenic factors affecting Kazakhstan's water resources.
