Installation of 700 Base Stations Planned for This Year

During the panel session "5G: Driver of Digital Transformation," Erzhan Meyramov, the Chairman of the Telecommunications Committee of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, answered questions from journalists. He also noted that various issues with base stations arise due to radiofobia.

"To simplify the procedure, we, in collaboration with deputies, are amending the law 'On Housing Relations,' according to which the condominium management body (OSI) will have the authority to decide on the installation of equipment on the roof of the building. This should simplify the process of obtaining consent. Various approaches are being implemented. For example, we have launched electronic voting through a QR code with votes 'for' or 'against' the installation on a pilot basis. Additionally, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, we plan to start a national study on the impact of base station operation on people's health, with the aim of subsequently revising the norms for the permissible level of base station radiation," said Erzhan Meyramov.

It's worth noting that during the briefing at the Digital Bridge 2023 forum, the Minister of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry, Bagdat Mussin, stated that by the end of 2025, more than half of the major cities in Kazakhstan will be connected to 5G.

"As per the plan, we have the installation of 700 base stations this year. Operators are already surpassing these figures, and by the end of the year, they will install more than a thousand base stations," stated B. Mussin.
