Women in Tech is Now in Kazakhstan

On September 4, 2024, the Kazakhstan Chapter of Women in Tech was officially launched in Almaty. This chapter has become part of a global movement aimed at promoting women in technology. Women in Tech is the largest organization in the world, uniting over 250,000 members from more than 50 countries.

The event gathered more than 150 participants offline and more than 100 online. Ayumi Moore Aoki, the head of Women in Tech Global, a technology diplomat, member of UNESCO’s International Advisory Group of Experts on Closing the Gender Gap, and one of Forbes Women’s Top 40, attended the official opening. In her speech, Ayumi emphasized the importance of developing girls in STEAM without limitations or glass ceilings, as well as the significance of community and global networking.

The women’s initiative was supported by the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Akimat of Almaty, and the UN Women office. Among the speakers and guests were well-known entrepreneurs, public figures, CEOs, and representatives of the arts and sports sectors.

During the event, topics such as management 2.0, women’s representation in leadership positions and the venture industry, motivational stories, and startup experiences were discussed. It’s important to note that the event was gender-balanced, both among speakers and attendees, underscoring our commitment to equality and inclusivity and signaling to society that together, we can solve important state and societal challenges.

Additionally, as part of the event, all participants had the opportunity to visit the eco-laboratory of the Central Asian Institute for Environmental Research at the invitation of Assel Tasmagambetova, a member of the Supervisory Board of Women in Tech Kazakhstan.

“We are proud that Kazakhstan is now part of this powerful movement. The mission of the Kazakhstan chapter of Women in Tech is to create a national technological women’s brand that will be recognized worldwide. We strive to cultivate a new generation of women leaders capable of creating innovations and promoting Kazakhstan on the global stage,” said Asem Bolatzhan, director of the Kazakhstan chapter of Women in Tech and advisor to the Minister of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
