Particular attention was given to international rankings that Kazakhstan aims to join in its effort to become one of the top 10 most attractive destinations for digital nomads. This ambition is supported by the launch of strategic initiatives such as the Digital Nomad Visa—a 12-month e-visa with the option for multiple entries and eligibility for a residence permit—and the Digital Nomad Residency, an online tool designed to simplify the process of obtaining long-term residency for foreign tech professionals.

“We aim to make Kazakhstan an appealing destination for international tech talent by creating a comfortable environment for both work and life. With the launch of these new initiatives, foreign specialists can collaborate with both local and international companies while integrating into our growing tech ecosystem. We support each digital nomad at every stage of relocation—from submitting an application to becoming part of the local community. Our goal is not only to attract global tech talent but also to provide the foundation for their long-term professional and entrepreneurial success in Kazakhstan,” said Talgat Maratov, Director of the Customer Support Office at Astana Hub.

As part of the pilot Digital Nomad Residency project, several dozen applications have already been submitted, including from candidates in the United States, Canada, Greece, and CIS countries. Kazakhstan offers attractive conditions for tech professionals, such as no income verification requirements, a fully online application process, and the opportunity for long-term stays.

Throughout my time here, I’ve found the system to be efficient, and the documentation process has been smooth. Other speakers at the panel session included Yerdaulet Ussenov, Senior Inspector of the Migration Service Department of the Almaty Police, who clarified legal provisions for foreign citizens and key aspects of migration law. Aisana Akimbayeva and Aliya Uderbayeva, representatives from WPK, detailed visa-free entry policies for certain countries, as well as procedures for obtaining an Individual Identification Number (IIN), fingerprinting, and other administrative steps.

From March 28 to 30, Almaty hosted AlmatyFair.ai—the largest artificial intelligence exhibition in the region—bringing together leading tech companies, startups, and experts in the field. The event was organized by the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan and the Akimat of Almaty. The exhibition’s general sponsor was Kaspi.kz, with official partners Freedom Bank and Halyk Bank.
