Google just signed a $250 million deal with California to Support journalism — that's What It Means

This week, Google joined a $250 million deal with the state of California to support California editorial offices. While the deal offers a much—needed cash injection for an industry that has seen massive layoffs this year, some have criticized the deal as a half-measure-and a setback.

By agreeing to this deal, Google is preventing bills that would force IT and other technology companies to pay news providers for placing ads alongside news content on their platforms.

The Guild of Western Media (MGW), the local branch of the NewsGuild-CWA journalists' union, condemned the deal in a post on X, calling it blackmail.

“After two years of advocating strong antitrust measures aimed at halting the decline of local editorial offices, we have been left with virtually no words,” MGW said in a statement. “Publishers who claim to represent our industry are celebrating... minimal financial obligations to Google to return the wealth stolen by this monopoly from our editorial offices.”

Интересно, у Гугла расширяются возможности в этом штате. Думаю это только начало.
