From the idea to the first deals: the startup's journey inside InvestMatch

According to Seedrs statistics, more than 40% of startups at an early stage do not even pass the first investor selection funnel due to an ill-conceived presentation process and the lack of a clear follow-up plan. Often, founders upload their pitch deck to several platforms, send out dozens of emails, and eventually lose the thread of negotiations. Our goal at InvestMatch is to reduce these time-consuming steps to a clear and transparent process inside a single Telegram bot.

In this article, we will walk you through the entire path of the founder inside the platform: from registration and uploading materials to the first correspondence with the investor. You will see how user flow works, what tools help speed up communication, and what results the first users are already showing.

1. Registration and data entry

  1. Launching bots, find InvestMatch via the direct link or @InvestMatchBot, click "Launch". The bot greets you and briefly talks about its functionality.
  2. A short survey is the name and description of the project (mission, market, problem).– Specify the stage (pre-seed, seed, Series A).– The approximate size of the round and the target geography of investors.
  3. Download Pitch Deck– PDF files of up to 15 slides or a link to Google Slides are supported.– There are hints in the bot interface: how to cut out key slides (market, business model, financial model).
  4. Setting up the founder's profile– Upload an avatar and a short bio.– Link email and LinkedIn for simplified contact exchange.

After these steps, your profile is fully ready, and the bot starts analyzing it.

2. Analysis and matching

  1. NLP and Visual analysis– Text from slides is extracted using OCR, then spaCy breaks it down into entities.– Key tables with financial metrics are recognized through the Google Vision API.
  2. Investor Scoring– The XGBoost model evaluates each investor profile for your project.– More than 20 parameters are taken into account: industry, stage, geography, check size, previous investments.
  3. The report for the founder – In the chat you receive a list of 5-7 investors with a brief description of the reasons for the match.– For each — a link to a profile, criteria of interest and an example of an investment case.
  4. Time frame– On average, the bot issues a final report in 4-5 minutes.– Under high load, we scale computing via AWS Lambda.

3. Correspondence and dialogue

  1. The "Start dialogue" button– There is a "Contact" button under each investor in the list. Clicking it takes you to a separate chat with this investor.
  2. Message templates– The bot offers a ready–made text of the first message: greeting + short pitch.- You can edit it manually or send it "as is".
  3. Dialog management– All correspondence is stored inside InvestMatch, no need to switch between messengers.– There are marks "read", "answered", "requires follow-up".
  4. Follow-up reminders– If the investor has not responded within 72 hours, the bot will send you a template letter and an offer to send it in a couple of clicks.

4. The first result

– Average first response time: 1.2 days after launching the dialog.– The percentage of successful dialogues: 78% of matches switched to active correspondence.– Beta Term-sheet: 30% of startups have received a preliminary investment offer

Practical advice

  1. Formulate the problem clearly, start the message with a single sentence "What is your startup doing" and "Why is it important now".
  2. Use statistics In the first message, be sure to add 2-3 key figures (user growth, revenue, KPI).
  3. Personalize the follow and before sending the reminder, take a look at the investor's profile and adjust the text to his specialization.
  4. Keep track of the status every day, go to the "My Dialogues" section to respond to new messages on time.
  5. Rate each match, and your likes/dislikes help the AI better select future recommendations.
