Kazakhstan's startup CodiPlay, which specializes in teaching schoolchildren programming through gamification, was awarded the prestigious "Digital Innovation of the Year" award at the international PIEoneer Awards 2024, held in London.

The competition, featuring projects from 34 countries, recognizes achievements in educational technology across 20 different categories. CodiPlay's win in the "Digital Innovation of the Year - Learning" category highlights the startup’s growing international recognition.

"On September 13 in London, we were honored to compete alongside educational technology giants like University College London from the UK, RMIT College of Business and Law from Australia, and Berlin School of Business and Innovation from Germany. We are proud of what we have achieved and continue to demonstrate every day: Kazakhstan is a source of innovation and a leader in educational technologies," said Zhanadil Taldybayev, CEO and founder of CodiPlay.

CodiPlay has been certified in London and joined the EdTech Impact platform, which helps educational institutions identify the best EdTech solutions. The project achieved the following rankings:

  • 1st place in the educational robots category,

  • 8th place in computing,
  • 15th place among startups in the lessons and resources category.

The startup’s main product is the CodiPlay app, where children learn programming languages like C++, Scratch, and Python through arcade games. The system also includes CodiKit robotics kits for creating IoT projects and the CodiTeach web platform to support teachers. Today, CodiPlay operates in schools in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Qatar, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, and Indonesia.

CodiPlay is a resident of Astana Hub, where it completed an acceleration program. The startup also received funding through the Seed Money program. Recently, with the support of NURIS, CodiPlay was awarded the status of Digital Public Good (DPG) by the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA), an initiative supported by the UN Secretary-General.
