Glovo Startup Competition Results: Winners of €35,000 and a Trip to Barcelona

Out of 70 Kazakhstani startups that entered the Glovo Startup Competition for tech projects, 12 advanced to the finals. These finalists competed for a prize fund of €35,000 and a two-week internship in Barcelona.

The competition had three stages: screening, diagnostics (expert interviews), and a committee review. The 12 teams that reached the finals were Acro, Beksar, Courstore, Kwaaka, SmartGas FuelSync, AMAN, Partners Pay, Kook, SPDex, OILA (Smart Zebra), Ozak.kz, and SpaceLab.

"Glovo Startup Competition offers our startups a unique chance to learn from top global experts and gain invaluable international experience for their growth and development. Along with cash prizes, the winning teams will receive individual consultations from top managers for two weeks, develop strategies for their startups, and participate in a local stand-up with the Glovo team. This competition is part of the global Catalyst program, which spans 23 countries worldwide" said Yerbol Akhmetov, Director of the Astana Hub Business Programs Office.

After the final pitching of startups, the Acro team secured first place for developing an AI platform for website personalization. They were awarded a prize of 20 thousand euros and an internship at the Glovo headquarters in Barcelona. The second place went to the Beksar startup, which introduced a solution for automating retail stores. This team received a prize of 10 thousand euros and a trip to Barcelona. The third place was claimed by Courstore, the creators of an AI platform for online courses in messengers, who were awarded 5 thousand euros.

"This year, we celebrate 5 years of successful work for Glovo in Kazakhstan. We recognize the role we play in promoting the prosperity of the IT industry in the countries where we operate. The Glovo Startup Competition is important to us because Glovo was once a small Spanish startup that grew and now operates in 23 countries. We want to share our experience and support local communities in the countries where we are present," said Sasha Misho, co-founder at Glovo.

The Glovo Startup Competition is organized by the Spanish technology company Glovo in partnership with the Astana Hub international technology park.

At the 2022 Digital Bridge international tech forum, Astana Hub and Glovo signed a Memorandum of cooperation to support the development of tech startups. Since then, several joint initiatives have been launched, including providing free access to digital courses for Glovo couriers in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as the Glovo Startup Competition.
