How Countries Around the World Are Funding Artificial Intelligence
The world’s leading economies are investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI), with a particularly fierce competition unfolding between the United States, China, and Europe. A correspondent from BAQ.KZ has compiled an overview of how much funding different countries are allocating to AI development.

What AI Projects Are Being Implemented in Kazakhstan?
The goal of the International AI Center is to transform Kazakhstan into an AI-driven state by fostering innovation and integrating AI across all aspects of public and economic life. The center will serve as a research hub for scientists, entrepreneurs, and startups.
According to the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry, the establishment of the center is expected to increase the export of Kazakh AI solutions to $5 billion by 2029, trigger a new wave of technological and economic growth, and position Astana as a leading AI hub in Central Asia.
What Does Astana Hub Say?
Astana Hub will continue running its successful accelerator programs, such as Silkway Accelerator and AIpreneurs, to support early-stage founders. The newly established Astana Hub Ventures, a $10 million fund launched this year, will also play a critical role in supporting local startups. The fund focuses on investing in Central Asian and international AI startups, with a particular emphasis on graduates of Astana Hub programs.
The flagship project for 2025 will be the launch of the International AI Center alem.ai, which aims to position Kazakhstan as an AI-driven nation. The center will drive the adoption of cutting-edge technologies across key sectors, including science, industry, creative industries, and government services.
alem.ai is set to become a hub for talent development, startup incubation, and AI research. The center plans to attract 10,000 talents annually, train 1,000 AI specialists, and launch 100 AI startups. Additionally, it will play a key role in boosting AI exports, with the goal of reaching $5 billion in AI-driven sales by 2029.
The alem.ai infrastructure will feature educational programs such as Tomorrow School and TUMO School, an AI acceleration campus, research labs, and a GovTech center. The lower floors will host lecture halls, forums, and an AI achievements museum, while the upper levels will be dedicated to startups and scientific projects.
Today, Astana Hub already has over 1,600 participants, including 150 AI-focused startups. The launch of alem.ai will further strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a regional leader in AI, providing a scalable platform for innovation, research, and global collaboration.
