The Astana Hub hosted the conference "Digital Solutions for People and the Planet" with the support of UNDP

The Astana Hub hosted the "Digital by default for People and the Planet" conference, the concluding event of National Knowledge Week 2022. The event presented digital solutions for sustainable development implemented in Kazakhstan with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

"UNDP in Kazakhstan is promoting a digital transformation that puts people and the planet at the center. We believe that fruitful collaboration with national partners on digitalization will help reduce inequality, improve the quality of public services and social protection of the population, and protect Kazakhstan's biodiversity and ecosystems for future generations", - said Sukhrob Khojimatov, Deputy Resident Representative in UNDP Kazakhstan.

The conference featured the "Digital Family Card" - a platform that collects and processes information on vulnerable populations to provide them with targeted socioeconomic assistance, contributing to more focused public spending planning.

The participants were drawn to the software complex "Volna" - an energy-saving device for central autonomous heat supply systems and gas boilers.

Other digital solutions include technological devices and systems successfully used in specially protected natural areas of Kazakhstan: the SMART patrol system, drones for forest inventory, camera traps, and satellite collars for monitoring and studying the biodiversity of Kazakhstan.

Participants of the conference had the opportunity to virtually visit five national parks and reserves through virtual tours prepared with the support of the UNDP in Kazakhstan.

In addition, social innovators who have participated in UNDP mentoring programs presented their solutions. These included the mobile application CLARITY, which improves women's access to health care and diagnostics, the Airvision.kz platform for monitoring air quality, and mobile applications to combat gender-based violence.

The conference also included workshops on digital skills for youth, organized in collaboration with experts from HP Inc.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is the leading UN organization fighting the injustices caused by poverty, inequality, and climate change.
