Journalists Trained in AI Tools at Astana Hub

In celebration of Media Workers' Day, Astana Hub hosted a hands-on training session for journalists focused on the application of artificial intelligence tools in the media industry. The event brought together around 30 representatives from various media outlets.

The educational program was developed by Astana Hub in collaboration with GPTunneL, a Kazakhstan-based AI platform with an international user base. Participants explored the capabilities of modern neural networks, generative models, and large language model (LLM) services such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, NoteBookLM, DeepL, Suno, HeyGen, and others. The agenda featured thematic modules that examined the evolution of artificial intelligence through the lens of journalism, including the history of AI and LLMs, lesser-known facts about ChatGPT, an overview of essential tools for media professionals, working with text and data, generating reference materials, and creating presentations and visual content.

During the workshop, journalists engaged in tasks involving text, audio, and image processing, produced multimedia content, honed their fact-checking skills, and explored how AI can assist in generating background materials and news briefs. One of the most memorable moments of the training was the live demonstration of a personalized AI avatar, created and showcased in real time. In another highlight, participants used the neural network-based Suno service to compose and generate a song about Astana—an illustrative example of AI's creative potential in journalism.

The session was led by Gennady Zakharov, Regional Head of Marketing at GPTunneL, who presented practical use cases and relevant AI solutions for editorial workflows. A special guest of the program was media producer and influencer Roza Ashirbayeva, who recently completed AI training in Silicon Valley. In her talk, she shared her experience integrating AI into media processes and introduced the "journalist as a startup" approach—treating editorial products as independent projects built around hypotheses, audience insights, and data analytics.

This training was part of Astana Hub’s broader initiative to foster digital competencies and promote the use of artificial intelligence technologies across various sectors. Astana Hub continues to roll out educational programs aimed at cultivating digital literacy and preparing professionals to effectively leverage AI in their fields—particularly in media and communications.
