Oil or IT? The Story of a Guy from Atyrau Who Made a Surprising Choice
Atyrau is rapidly catching up with Almaty and Astana in the development of its IT sector, with the recent opening of Atyrau Hub, a regional branch of the Astana Hub technology park, marking a significant step forward.
In 2007, Bekzat Mussin made a bold decision to pursue a career in IT, turning away from the oil rigs and drilling platforms that dominate the local economy. Instead, he became a programmer at a time when few in Kazakhstan understood the role of tech specialists.
In an interview with Digital Business, Bekzat shared what motivated him to pursue a career in IT during the early 2000s, a period when the field was still relatively unknown. He also discussed the opportunities available for programmers in Atyrau and explained why he believes Kazakhstan's oil capital is on the path to becoming one of the country's IT hubs.
