In the final piece of the "Kazakhstan Venture" series, Digital Business presents Kazakhstani startups—residents of Astana Hub—that achieved significant milestones in 2024.
In an interview for the Kazakhstan Venture series, CEO of Astana Hub Magzhan Madiyev summed up the progress of Kazakhstan's IT ecosystem over the past year and shared his forecasts for the future.
Out of the 1,500 IT companies at Astana Hub, 150 are currently working in the field of artificial intelligence, according to the Minister of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry (MDDIAI) Zhaslan Madiyev.
In the next five years, Kazakhstan aims to train one million citizens in artificial intelligence (AI), as announced today by the Minister of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry, Zhaslan Madiyev, during a government meeting.
Over the past decade, we have seen the sharing economy evolve. Around the globe, thousands of companies have emerged, offering nearly anything for rent — from kitchenware and household appliances to cars and commercial equipment.
The results of the third cohort of the Hero Training program, implemented in partnership with Draper University, were announced at Astana Hub. Over the course of five weeks, startups enhanced their products, established partnerships with companies from the UAE, Kyrgyzstan, and other countries, and secured deals in the U.S. market.
Astana Hub, in collaboration with IT Park Uzbekistan and the High Technology Park of the Kyrgyz Republic, hosted the Invest Day. This event was dedicated to empowering women-led startups from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
Why does the term "kolkhoznik" carry a negative connotation in our society? Why are people leaving rural areas while millions are funneled through the agricultural sector? These questions inspired Abylaikhan Akhmetzhanov to raise the prestige of farming and turn agriculture into a driving force of Kazakhstan's economy.
The educational project AI Quest 2.0, organized by Astana Hub, is actively taking place in Kazakhstan. Participants from all regions of the country have already started completing tasks to learn the basics of artificial intelligence (AI) and compete for the grand prize — an iPhone 15. A total of 20 smartphones are being given away, one for each region. The quest will run until January 2025, and everyone has a chance to become one of the winners.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with leading experts in venture funding, representatives of the Kazakh business community, and international partners. The central topic of discussion was the creation of the Venture Capital Fund of Funds, aimed at attracting global capital, developing the startup ecosystem, and strengthening Kazakhstan's position as a regional hub for technology and innovation.
